Five Things About Ghost World by Daniel Clowes

  1. I love books that are tender to its most hurt characters and this one is good at that.
  2. Artistically it was amazing and interesting, it feels very much anchored to the time when it was published.
  3. I was made uncomfortable by the flipness with which sexual violence is treated.
  4. I both liked and was saddened by how the two girls talked to each other. I think it’s more indicative of how men think women relate than how they actually do.
  5. Scarlet Johansson was an excellent casting choice.

Cinco cosas sobre “Gabito” de John Naranjo y Gisela Bohórquez

Five Things about Giant Days Vol. 2 & 3 by John Allison, Lissa Treiman,Whitney Cogar

  1. I still love the girls, their friendship is absolutely beautiful.
  2. It is a bit confusing how much are we to believe that the strange things that happen are product of their enhanced imagination or if we are supposed to believe there is a degree of fantasy in their world.
  3. I find Mc Graw so attractive,  it is worrisome.
  4. It does feel, at time, that the story is just going on with no real nort. I wished there was some other plot other than “their lives.”
  5. The development of the side characters is spot on.

Five Things about Giant Days Vol. 1 by John Allison, Lissa Treiman,Whitney Cogar

  1. Again, this book came to me through the recommendation of a friend to whom the characters in the book reminded him of some of my friends and me. He was not wrong.
  2. The illustrations are adorable and the characters are thoroughly thought out. There is a lovely attention to detail to them.
  3. The main characters are compelling, interesting, and wonderfully human.
  4. It could use some more diversity.
  5. I really enjoyed the way they are approaching themes like drug abuse and aproximations to religions and occult arts. I look forward to how this will develop as the story move on.
